About me

I have lived in Bristol since completing my Fine Art Degree in 1982. I started printmaking in 1985, when I joined the Bristol Printmaking Workshop. Since 1992 I have worked from my home, where I now have a purpose built etching studio complete with electrified press.

I have exhibited my prints in open print competitions in many countries including England, Russia, Spain, America and Canada.

About my work

My work is a direct interpretation of the English landscape, developed from sketches and photographs produced on site. I am interested in the soft gradations of tone that are possible and a techniquecalled Mezzotint where I etch the steel in Nitric acid so that a deep texture is produced throughout the plate. The areas of tone are created by carefully scraping and burnishing the steel. The smoother the area, the lighter it will print.

I am about to embark on an an MA Degree in Printmaking, where I wish to develop my abstract work and expand my figurative etchings portfolio.

About my site

Generally the images are in proportion to one another on the same page, except where noted. They are not proportionate between pages. The size given is the approximate image size. The paper is bigger, generally about twice the image size, but this depends on how I cut it! Colours are as true as I can manage, but computer screens display very differently. Because of the nature of my work, this site will be updated at irregular intervals, but please keep visiting!
